Starc to skip IPL again, Lyon in auction

The left-armer was one of several notable absentees, including Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Chris Gayle, when lists were confirmed on Saturday.

Starc has not played in the IPL since 2015, but had said earlier this month he was seriously considering making a return.

However his decision not to play comes as part of a busy 2022 for Australia, with a Test tour of Pakistan immediately preceding the tournament.

Australia also have a tour of Sri Lanka later in the year, as well as a home Twenty20 World Cup.

Some 59 Australians have however registered their interest, making up the biggest contingent of overseas players in the 1214 names listed.

Nathan Lyon has been listed at the top price of, attempting to play in the tournament for the first time.

He is set at the top reserve price of $280,000, with Aaron Finch, Chris Lynn and Kane Richardson also listed at the same price.

Marnus Labuschagne is also hoping to feature for the first time, with a reserve price of $187,000.

Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa and Steve Smith are among other Australians to join the mega auction.

Marcus Stoinis will meanwhile join new franchise Lucknow, with the competition expanding to 10 teams and Ahmedabad the other expansion team.

Stoinis was one of three players to be signed early by the new club before the option, with KL Rahul to captain and and Indian legspinner Ravi Bishnoi also locked in.

"After Ben Stokes, who is likely to stay away from IPL this season, Stoinis is the complete package," Lucknow team mentor Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports.

"He can bat, bowl, and is one of the best fielders. I think his addition is good news for the team.

"We have seen him perform in the ICC T20 World Cup. He can win matches single handedly."
