Former Fairfield-Liverpool star Gurinder Sandhu made history in the Big Bash last night.

The tall pace bowler took the Sydney Thunder's first ever BBL hat-trick in a victory against ladder leaders the Perth Scorchers.

Amazingly, this is the third hat-trick of the 28-year-old's professional career.

He took his first in 2018, while playing for Tasmania in the Marsh Cup, then his second game just a couple of months ago, playing for Queensland in the same competition.

His latest hat-trick came in the rain-affected game, a victory for the Thunder which has seen them cement their third place on the BBL ladder, pulling away from the fourth-placed Hobart Hurricanes by six points, and separated from the second-place Sydney Sixers by only their net run rate.

Sandhu dismissed Kiwi import Colin Munro - who has a tonne to his name in this BBL season - for 18 (caught by Ben Cutting) at the end of the 12th over.

He next bowled in the 16th over, kicking off his spell with the wicket of Aaron Hardie (4), caught by Matt Gilkes in the deep.

The dismissal of Brit Laurie Evans on 20, who skied the ball to be caught by wicket-keeper Sam Billings in his last outing for the Thunder before heading to the West Indies for English duties, sealed the deal for Sandhu.

As his hat-trick came from two overs, Sandhu posted on Instagram that said he had "no idea" he'd even secured the coveted crown for the third time.

He finished the match with impressive figures of 4/22 from his four overs.
