LNP calls for wider Qld hospital inquiry

A review has been ordered by the state government into allegations of deadly and botched operations at the Caboolture Hospital, which will include surgical incidents performed between 2020 and now.

The LNP says every victim from the hospital deserves their right to justice and the review's scope should be expanded to include years prior.

"All I want to see is a proper inquiry, not a hosed down sanitised, washed out version that only relates to a certain period," Mr Crisafulli said on Tuesday.

"I want to know that every patient matters, and every incident is investigated, and every person gets their opportunity for justice.

"If they are serious about this, it will be a proper inquiry with a broad terms of reference, focusing on a number of years, and it'll be reviewed independently, not a sanitised version reviewed independently."

The review was established after media reports aired claims of preventable deaths, surgical negligence, and a culture of bullying at Caboolture Hospital.

A hotline set up to take complaints has received 74 calls so far.

Queensland Health is yet to clarify whether the inquiry will be expanded to include dates prior to 2020.

In a statement to AAP, a Metro North Spokesperson said the independent review will be conducted by South Australian Surgeon Dr Jim Sweeney and will include a review of calls made to Metro North's hotline.

"The review will consider any cases brought to its attention concerning patient care at Caboolture Hospital," the statement read.

"Patients are also advised they are able to seek a review of their situation through the Office of the Health Ombudsman."

AAP understands that the terms of reference stipulates from 2020, but any concerns raised prior can still be considered if there is significant or enough information available.

The outcomes are expected by the end of October or early November and will be publicly released.
