Wollondilly's new cultural precinct is starting to come to life with construction expected to begin soon on a new, fit-for-purpose Children's Services Building.

Wollondilly Council has awarded the construction of the new facility to Patterson Building Group.

Mayor Robert Khan said awarding of the construction tender signified that the cultural precinct was becoming a reality.

He said the completed Children's Services Building would be particularly welcomed by parents who live and work in the area.

"It is important that good quality, cost effective and reliable childcare is available for growing families in the Wollondilly shire, and the new building will provide a modern, safe and centrally located service for the youngest members of our community," he said.

"This is an exciting step and I look forward to seeing the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct really start taking shape in the next 12 months."

The new building will facilitate the relocation of the council's existing 30-place before and after school care and vacation care services, and has capacity to accommodate a future 30-place preschool in a modern and fit for purpose building.

This project is expected to commence in late September with expected completion in mid-2022

The Children Services Building is a key element in stage on of the precinct, co-funded by the Western Parkland City Liveability Program.

It follows the current refurbishment of the Shire Hall which will stand as the symbolic gateway to the precinct, linking the old with the new.

The Wollondilly Community, Cultural and Civic Precinct will also include the Performing Arts Centre, Government Services Building, village green and a new library.
