Wollondilly Council's re-imagined vision for Picton has been approved.
The Picton Place Plan was unanimously supported by councillors at a recent council meeting.
The Wollondilly Community Cultural and Civic Precinct was identified in the council's 20 year land use vision for the shire, Wollondilly 2040.
The plan includes future parklands, new council offices and a performing arts centre.
Councillor Judith Hannan said she was happy to support the plan for Picton.
"Simply there is a lot of work that has gone into this," she said at the meeting.
"We've had lots of people put in input. I just think its a shame the Picton Bypass didn't get a gig in the budget because that would have made it much easier to plan the future of Picton but that might be so far off that we need to get on with our plan.
"I am looking forward to coming to shows in Picton and being able to walk and cycle around the areas because it is an amazing place."
Councillor Blair Briggs also spoke in favour of the plan.
"I am happy to have the place plan adopted and I agree with Cr Hannan on the bypass but that's a fight for another day," he said.
"This is ultimately a good, big-picture program and look forward to seeing it completed in many years to come."
The Place Plan includes a range of strategies to enhance Picton over the years ahead.
The plan is a guiding document that will assist the council and the community to identify the purpose and character of the town and will further strengthen Picton's position as the commercial hub of Wollondilly and the home of government services.
The key principles which have been incorporated into the plan following previous community engagement include: open space and more trees, opportunities to engage with nature, more activities and longer operating hours and a reduction in traffic congestion.
Previous feedback also showed that residents and businesses were keen to maintain a village lifestyle, protect rural views and integrate the valuable heritage and character of Picton.
Apart from the Wollondilly Community, Cultural and Civic Precinct, other related key projectsin the plan will include the Picton Parklands Master Plan.
