The Wests Tigers have a brand new all-time leading try-scorer - and he's from right here in Macarthur.

Popular winger David Nofoaluma bagged a double in the club's unexpected 42-24 thrashing of the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium at the weekend.

The first four-pointers took Nofa up to a career total of 85 tries, surpassing the previous club record held by legend Benji Marshall and fellow Macarthur boy Chris Lawrence, while the second saw him extend his record out to 86.

The 27-year-old, from Ruse, thanked Wests Tigers fans for their support after the game in a video posted to the club's Facebook page.

"For myself, it's a great achievement," he said.

"To all the families, and Wests Tigers fans and members, I appreciate you all being on this journey.

"I hope you all stay behind us through this period.

"All the best - this one's for you guys."

Nofa's record-breaking try came in the 30th minute of the high-scoring game.

He crossed again in the 68th minute.

The Wests Tigers' victory sees the club move within one win of the NRL top eight, putting a finals berth within reach.

With NRL teams currently based in Queensland to avoid the COVID-induced lockdowns and restrictions in Sydney, Nofa told NRL.com he didn't have a chance to throw a big celebration marking the record-breaking achievement.

He said he enjoyed a quiet beer and is looking forward to the team continuing their winning ways.

"Overall I'm just happy with the result and getting the win," he told NRL.com.

"It's sort of a job as a winger to score tries.

"I think this being the club that I started with, and achieving this here, makes it more special for myself."

With several more good playing years still under his belt, it's likely the prolific winger will further extend his lead as the club's all-time greatest try-scorer.
