Jean Hutton was around in 1918 at the time of the Spanish flu.
On Wednesday, the 105-year-old received her first dose of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccination at a community clinic in suburban Hobart.
"I feel it is the right thing to do for the community," she said.
"I get a lot of visitors in my home and the vaccination will help keep everybody safe."
The third-generation Tasmanian lives independently in Hobart, where she has been most of her life, apart from some time on the picturesque Bruny Island.
Mrs Hutton was born a twin but her birth-sister died at nine months of age. Her timber-mill working father lived 89 years and her mother to 93.
Daughter Lynne said her mum had always embraced and coped with change.
Until this winter, she managed to chop her own firewood despite deteriorating eyesight.
"I'm surprised she's still got 10 fingers," Lynne said.
State Health Department Deputy Secretary Dale Webster praised Mrs Hutton for rolling up her sleeve.
"Mrs Hutton has set the example for every one of us to follow and get vaccinated. If she can do it, then everyone else who is eligible for a vaccine can do it too," he said.
"Without doubt Mrs Hutton is a very special Tasmanian. I'm pleased she's getting vaccinated, not just for herself but to help protect her family and friends."
