South Australia will not change its border rules for NSW and Queensland amid ongoing concerns over coronavirus cases in those states.
The measures mean travellers from the Greater Brisbane area must quarantine for 14 days and get tested for the virus.
Travellers from NSW are not permitted to enter SA unless they have an exemption or are considered an essential traveller.
Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier has flagged the rules may change within days for Brisbane, depending on the latest testing.
But she says South Australia will continue to treat each state or region on its particular circumstances.
"When we put the border controls in place, it's very much dependent on the information and the situation," she said.
"The situation in Queensland is quite different to the situation in NSW."
The decision follows a meeting of SA's transition committee on Tuesday and after NSW reported five new locally-acquired infections.
Queensland reported no new cases but had confirmed on Monday night that the partner of a quarantine hotel cleaner with the disease had also tested positive.
Professor Spurrier said the Queensland situation was an indication that the new, more virulent, strain of the virus remained a real concern and supported border restrictions.
"What is very clear with this new variant is that the sort of restrictions that we might have used in the past, they may not be quite enough to contain this virus," she said.
"So it's better to keep it out in the first place."
SA reported no new coronavirus infections on Tuesday and currently has 15 active infections, all overseas arrivals in hotel quarantine.
