The difference a few days can make, eh?
Having last week been cagey about thoughts of a pre-Christmas opening, today NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian hinted she was looking to move on the removal of checkpoints sooner than later.
Was that a collective "hurrah" heard echoing across border businesses and communites? You bet it was.
"Now that Victoria is down to zero or a just handful of community transmissions a day that gives us pause to reflect on when that two-week period starts for us and of course we'll base that on health advice," Ms Berejiklian said.
Those at the Victorian end of the line also said the government will not be rushed into relaxing restrictions further ahead of Sunday's planned announcement. And that came after the third consecutive day of no new cases of coronavirus and no further deaths.
Beyond the COVID realm, it was only four days ago that Australia Post CEO Christine Holgate said she hadn't been told to stand down after revelations that Cartier watches valued at almost $20,000 were given to senior staff.
Today Ms Holgate resigned.
Ms Holgate said she would cooperate with investigations into Australia Post being run by two government departments and wouldn't be "seeking any financial compensation".
And there'll be no compensation or further action after Victoria's Supreme Court dismissed a cafe owner's challenge to the state's COVID-19 curfew.
Justice Tim Ginnane on Monday found the curfew did restrict human rights. But he found the restrictions legal and proportionate to public health.
And with the clock counting down to election day in the US, Time reports that the nation has "hit its worst spike in cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. As of Oct. 30, there have been 830,000 new infections reported and more than 9,500 deaths in the two weeks leading up the election."
