You only have to look at the last three years to see former Wodonga product Jacqui Newton's surge through the netball ranks.
After claiming a Victorian Netball League flag in 2018 and captaining Victorian Fury to an Australian Netball League premiership last year, Newton is now preparing for a Suncorp Super Netball grand final with the Melbourne Vixens.
The Toni Wilson medallist has been a training partner with the Vixens for the past three years and was called upon in the defensive end for the side this season.
Newton packed up and left Melbourne in July to join her teammates in Queensland.
She admitted it's nice to see the team's dedication paying off after securing the first spot in the decider last weekend.
"The only thing left to do now is win it," Newton said.
She added she'd be happy to play any role the team needs come game day.
"At the start of the season it was awesome and obviously I was loving the opportunities that I got," she said.
"At the end of the day you know that it's just what the team needs and there's so many factors that come into play.
"We have some great cover in the defensive end, so if there's a chance, I'd take it, but I would also be happy just to watch them smash it."
Newton admitted her time spent in the Queensland hub this year had seen her learn a lot about herself both on and off the court.
It's now been months since she's seen her family or partner Brad Robinson.
"Being away from family, we've learnt a lot about ourselves," Newton said.
"We've come a long way in knowing how to be our best on and off the court.
"Especially for me, going into it it was a four-week thing at the start and then it extended to nine weeks and now we're sitting at about 13.
"Last week we hit day 80 on the road and when this all comes to a close I think we'll be reaching 100.
"It's a long time away."
The Vixens guaranteed their spot in the decider after a convincing 63-47 win against the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
They will now face the winner of this weekend's preliminary final between the Lightning and West Coast Fever.
The grand final will be played on October 18 at Nissan Arena.
"You just have to take each day as it comes and take any opportunity you can get," Newton said.
