Horse studs to blueberry farms: escape crowds with Airbnb of camping

Horse studs to blueberry farms: escape crowds with Airbnb of camping

The Airbnb of camping

Homegrown private-land camping specialist Youcamp has partnered with successful US-based Hipcamp to maximise its 50,000 listings across 1000 private properties in Australia.

The partnership will create the most comprehensive resource for unique outdoor stays across camping and RV sites, glamping, farmstays and homesteads.

You can stay anywhere from a horse stud to a blueberry farm where farm animals pop in to say hello. Property owners can list their land for camping on the Hipcamp website and earn additional income.

Hipcamp Australia will be led by the same Youcamp team who for nearly seven years have been helping people get outside and escape the crowds, a popular holiday option at this time. The team is proud to support their many private land hosts in regional areas, especially through this year of drought, bushfire and now a pandemic.

Sydney's seaside sculpture walk

In its 24th annual exhibition, Sculpture by the Sea will once again grace the winding footpaths from Bondi to Tamarama in Sydney.

From October 22, the two-kilometre-long coastal walk becomes a sculpture park featuring 100 works by artists from Australia and across the world.

Visit on a Saturday or Sunday between 10am and 3pm to meet the artists and hear their perspectives on their work, or pick up a copy of the $12 catalogue to read stories of the artists. Keep an eye out closer to the date for more information regarding COVID-19 procedures for the event which runs for three weeks, until November 8.

No trolley dollies

Is there truth to the rumour things taste different up in the air? Gate Gourmet's ready meals might have the answer.

The leading inflight caterer usually services over 200 airports and airport lounges. Now flights are grounded, it has joined the ready-meal industry and is selling inflight meals to all. Standard packs cost $27 for seven meals.

Dishes may include the likes of chicken chipolatas with creamy mash, peas and onion gravy; beef, tomato and thyme bolognaise with spaghetti; or Hokkien vegetable noodles with soy, chilli and garlic.

You can pick up meals from Sydney or Brisbane airport. Temper your expectations, airline food is still airline food but for $3.85 per meal, who can complain?

Viking cruises ahead

Viking Cruises has unveiled its itineraries for 2023 after selling out already for 2021 and 2022.

Selected ocean cruises are now available at this year's prices with savings up to $3000 per couple. River cruises in Europe, Russia, Egypt and Southeast Asia have also been revealed.

Viking is offering the freedom to change plans up to 24 hours before departure with a full cruise credit.

Think about a 13-day Mediterranean Odyssey from Barcelona to Venice, priced from $7995 per person. Or perhaps the 12-day Pharaohs and Pyramids roundtrip from Cairo, priced from $8295 per person, is more up your alley?
