Council calls on locals to roll up sleeves and donate blood

Roll up your sleeves and answer the call - the Australian Red Cross needs you!

Campbelltown Council is calling on the community to join their staff by taking part in this year's council blood drive.

The Australian Red Cross Ready, Set, Give 2020 Councils Blood Challenge is now under way, and locals can help put their council ahead of the pack by booking in a donation.

Blood donations have become even more important during the coronavirus pandemic as regular donations have been interrupted.

Donated blood is used in a number of treatments for people with various diseases, or who have lost blood through childbirth or trauma.

Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic said giving blood was an important donation.

"Now more than ever the Australian Red Cross needs blood donations because of the drop in supply caused by the Covid-19 health situation," he said.

"Every donation could save three lives, so I encourage everyone to get behind a bit of friendly competition with other LGAs and join me and many of our staff in donating blood."

The blood drive runs until September 30.
