Sports organisations in Camden have shared in $4.6 million of grants across the state to purchase equipment, improve facilities and increase participation opportunities.

Member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves said the grants would provide essential funds to help organisations increase participation as restrictions are slowly eased.

These grants will benefit our community in the long run," he said.

"Sport is a vital part of the fabric of the Camden community. We have so many passionate sporting organisations."

Both state and federal Liberal governments have recently been exposed for giving these types of grants out with questionable motives.

Mr Sidgreaves said these projects were assessed on a NSW State Electorate basis by panels that may include the local members of parliament, members of the community or independent persons.

Local sporting groups to receive a grant include:

  • Bringelly Netball Club for umpire and coaching courses.
  • Oran Park Cricket Club for level 2 coaching clinic, first aid courses and a club governance strategy workshop and subsidised uniform cost for players.
  • Southern Cross Gliding Club for the installation of a glider training simulator at the clubhouse.
  • Camden Junior AFL Football Club to purchase training balls, match balls and uniforms.

"We are all looking forward to seeing community sport return to normal when it is safe to do so and this money will provide vital funds to help organisations be ready to resume as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted," Mr Sidgreaves said.

The Local Sport Grants Program awards sporting organisations up to $20,000 for projects which focus on development and participation, access and facility development. For further information visit: https://sport.nsw.gov.au/clubs/grants/localsport
