Loyalty, determination and accuracy in the field.

It was these qualities that allowed the Macarthur Softball Association's Open Men's team to take out the state championship this month.

The team travelled to Newcastle to compete against six other clubs for the 2019 Open Men's State Championship trophy.

They lost only to only one other team (Hornsby) in the rounds leading up to the championship match.

Macarthur club president Jenny Todhunter said all games played during the tournament were "exciting" and it was a "tight battle" against Georges River in the final.

"Everybody in the team supported each other's play and there were no errors in the field, which helps a lot," she said. "We had a dominant batting performance in the last game."

Todhunter - whose son also played in the winning team - said the 12-3 win was a great reward for a loyal, truly Macarthur-focussed team.

"We last won four years ago and in that time I think Georges River has won the title twice, so it was really great for the club," she said.

"I'm exceptionally proud of all the players and also the coaching staff, managers, statisticians and everyone who knows their jobs so well.

"We're fortunate to have that in our club."

Todhunter said the players ranged in age from 17 to 35 and everyone called Macarthur home.

"They're all Macarthur raised and have spent a lot of time with the club," she said.

"Many of our players have come through the juniors to the men's team.

"We've also had a lot of success with our juniors."

Six Macarthur players have also been selected for the 2020 NSW Men's Open Team: Josh Bond, Ryan King, Luke Ollerenshaw, Harri Peters, Lachlan Smith and James Todhunter.
