Macarthur can already boast titles like Hacksaw Ridge, Unbroken, Peter Rabbit and The Wolverine, and now another production can join the list.

Aussie streaming service Stan's upcoming climate change drama The Commons was partly filmed in Camden.

Stan last week announced the stacked cast for the eight-episode show.

Chief among them is Golden Globe-winning actress Joanne Froggatt, best known to audiences for her brilliant portrayal of Anna Bates in ever-popular British series - and spin-off film - Downton Abbey.

Other big names include Ryan Corr (from Australian shows like Bloom, Packed to the Rafters and Love Child), David Lyons (Sea Patrol, ER), John Waters (All Saints, Offspring) and Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Mindhunter).

Familiar territory: The Commons is not the first Ryan Corr project to film in Macarthur - the actor also appeared in Bringelly-shot war film Hacksaw Ridge.

A Stan spokesman confirmed part of The Commons was shot in Narellan earlier this year.

While no specific details about plotlines or particular actors were given away, the spokesman said the production was filming on August 7 at the Narellan Jets Football Club and Grounds, Narellan Sports Hub.

The series promises to take a dramatic look at the technology surrounding climate change.

"The Commons is a character-driven thriller set at the crossroads of climate change and the cutting edge of biotechnology," Stan revealed.

"Set in the not-too-distant future, it's a story about motherhood as the ultimate act of faith in humanity.

"Part mystery, part relationship drama, it puts a human face on what's coming down the road and the heroism that lies inside us all when our backs are against the wall."

The Commons is produced by Playmaker and created by AACTA Award-winning showrunner Shelley Birse (The Code).

Birse also wrote the series in collaboration with Matt Ford (Hiding), Michael Miller (Cleverman) and Matt Cameron (Jack Irish).

The Commons is not the first Ryan Corr production to film in Macarthur.

Back in 2015 Corr starred alongside Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey and more in Mel Gibson's war drama Hacksaw Ridge. A large chunk of the Oscar-winning film was shot at a private farm in Bringelly.

Macarthur, and especially Camden, has become a hotspot for films and television series in recent years.

Titles like Australia, The Daughter, Home and Away, A Place to Call Home, The Sapphires and many more have all filmed in the region, and popular Nine drama Doctor Doctor continues to film at Cobbitty's Denbigh House.

The Commons is due to be released on Stan this summer.
