Two days after his master went missing in Victoria's alpine region, Rocky the Jack Russell terrier was spotted nearby.

A search continues for Jeremy Boyden, 23, who hasn't been seen since Friday.

But investigators revealed on Tuesday that Rocky - who was with Mr Boyden when he vanished - was spotted on Sunday.

"It is understood a man four-wheel driving near Dargo High Plains Road saw the white and brown Jack Russell who answers to the name of Rocky, on Sunday about 4pm," Victorian police said in a statement.

"He did not stop to collect the dog as he was unaware of the search at the time."

It's the same road, north of the Dargo township, where Mr Boyden was last seen about 5pm Sunday.

Dozens of police, SES crews and volunteers continued an air and land search on Tuesday. It is expected to resume on Wednesday.

Mr Boyden's friends have joined the search.

"It's pretty devastating when you hear that your best mate has gone missing ... we're out here doing everything we can," Jake Reid said.

Mr Boyden was last seen wearing a green and gold jumper and blue tracksuit pants, and is thought to be wearing only one runner.

There are concerns for Mr Boyden's welfare given the length of time he's been missing and also the near freezing overnight temperatures recorded in the area where he's missing.
