Macarthur is poised to feature heavily in a new and prestigious harness racing series.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) will launch the inaugural $1 Million Pace in 2020 and will feature two meetings at Club Menangle.
The series will carry prize money worth close to $1.5 million and is open to Australian-bred, NSW-trained pacers aged four years or older.
Horses also must have national rating points of up to 70 to qualify. Pacers gain or lose points from each start under the national handicap system.
The $1 Million Pace will kick off on May 3 in Broken Hill and the month-long series will consist of 25 races.
A round of quarter finals will be held at Club Menangle on May 23. The club will also host the $1 Million Pace final on May 31, 2020.
HRNSW chief executive John Dumesny said the new series would allow NSW trainers an "exclusive opportunity" to compete for the "massive prize money" on offer.
"The series will completed at 14 tracks, which is basically half of NSW," he said.
"But these tracks [based] in each of the state's regions as well as Broken Hill."
Mr Dumesny said the new series would complement the Miracle Mile on the HRNSW racing calendar.
"NSW already has the $1 million Miracle Mile for the upper echelon horses," Mr Dumesny said.
"This new series is directed at the mainstay group of the racing population.
"NSW now has two $1 million events. Never before has this level of prize money been offered for these types of horses."
