A Mount Annan teen has completed a special project which expresses her passion for netball, artwork and her Aboriginal heritage.

Courtney Jones was given the honour of designing the NSW Swifts' 2019 Indigenous uniform.

The Swifts will sport the look for their Suncorp Super Netball derby with Giants Netball this Sunday at Qudos Bank Arena.

Jones, who is a proud Biripi woman (Taree area), said her design represented a child's journey towards playing professional netball.

"I wanted to share a story [in the design] so I spoke with my family and based it off my own experiences too," the 19-year-old said.

"I am proud of my culture. I have my totem, a shark, tattooed on my shoulder which I carry with me."

Jones said she was "100 per cent stoked" to see the special uniform unveiled.

"I am so excited and my proud is family proud," she said.

Jones admitted that she was surprised to be approached to design the uniform.

"I had done art before, but just bits and pieces," she said.

"This was my first time giving it a real go - it had just been a hobby.

"The opportunity came from out of the blue and I was thrown in the deep end. But it was a lot of fun, hopefully I get asked to do it again next year."

Jones thanked her dad's friend and local artist, Peter Jenson, for supporting her on the project.

"I worked on the design whenever I wasn't training [for netball]," she said.

"I hadn't really painted before so Peter guided me through how to put my draft onto a canvas."

Jones grew up in Mount Annan and played junior representative netball in Camden.

She then played for Sutherland Stingrays in the premier league open division before representing the NSW under-19s side last year.

The wing attack said she was back playing for the Stingrays in 2019.

Jones said she had a long-term goal of being a NSW Swifts player.

"It was a massive honour [to design the Indigenous uniform]. It has really pushed me to want to pursue my dream of playing for the Swifts," she said.
