When Jai Waetford put his latest EP together, he was a little nervous about the response.

The Campbelltown product changed up his musical style for Figure It Out - released today (Friday, May 24) - and wasn't sure if his fans would appreciate the more urban vibes.

But the 20-year-old need not have worried.

"I guess as I've grown up and evolved my fans have grown and evolved with me," Waetford said.

"I was nervous about how people would receive it but I've had really great feedback so far."

The former Campbelltown Performing Arts High School student first came to acclaim as a 14-year-old on the Aussie talent show The X Factor Australia.

Waetford came third on the program's fifth season, and released four EPs between 2013 and 2016.

He is extremely proud of Figure It Out, which includes his popular 2018 release Friends.

The track has already amassed more than three million streams and is one of the singer's most successful songs to date.

Waetford said Figure It Out was a collection of songs he'd worked on with producer James Angus.

"You don't really know what's going to work until the EP comes together and sometimes the whole process can feel endless," he said.

"But this is the result of some really good times in the studio, it's really cool music that I'm proud of.

"There were times in the past where, even though I always loved making music, going into the studio could start to feel like a chore.

"But I just had the best time working on this one."

Waetford said he was inspired by the boldness of artists like US musician Dijon to explore new musical avenues.

He hopes his fans have just as much fun listening to the EP as he had making it.

"This has been a super fun time in my life," Waetford said.

"If you like it and want to buy it and stream it, I'd be super grateful."

Jai Waetford's Figure It Out EP is now available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube Music and Amazon Music.
