It's time to celebrate three country music icons.

The US-based Kings of Country tribute band returns to Australia for a national tour, which includes a show at Campbelltown Catholic Club's The Cube on June 9.

Kings of Country consists of Johnny Cash impersonator Phillip Bauer, Michael Moore as Willie Nelson and Ted Vigil as John Denver.

Bauer told the Advertiser that the trio promised to deliver an authentic, high energy performance next month.

He said the band would play all of Cash, Nelson and Denver's biggest tracks, including Walk The Line, On The Road Again and Take Me Home, Country Road.

"We dress, sound and look just like the kings of country," he said.

"We bring all of people's favourite songs onto the stage and jam it all into the show.

"We have a lot of fun and it's a really great show."

Bauer said he had paid tribute to the great Johnny Cash since 1985.

"We meet people at our shows who have been fans of Johnny Cash all of their life. When I'm performing on stage, I think the crowd can suppress reality and relive their past," he said.

Bauer said he was particularly inspired by Cash's At Folsom Prison album, which was recorded live at Folsom Prison in 1968.

"Everyone thought he was crazy for him to do that, but it was his most popular record," he said.

"The record was so raw, you could hear the prison warden in the background at times."

Michael Moore was born and raised in Texas, and fell in love with Nelson's music from a young age.

He has performed his Willie Tribute Show through the US for many years.

Meanwhile Ted Vigil received an American Country Music Association "Rising Legend Award" in 2012 for his portrayal of John Denver.

Bauer said Moore and Vigil were both "great guys and great performers".

"Michael has a guitar just like Willie's and plays all of his riffs and lead parts," he said.

"Ted looks and sounds just like John Denver, he's incredible."

The Kings of Country will perform at The Cube on June 9 at 8pm.

Tickets are $40 for members and $45 for visitors.
