Narellan Vale driver Katelyn Hickey exceeded her own expectations at last weekend's Australian Late Model Title event.
Hickey not only qualified for the feature race, but finished inside the top 10.
The 22-year-old simply aimed to qualify for the 40-lap feature race at Sydney's Valvoline Raceway.
After qualifying in 19th spot, Hickey survived the grueling race to finish in ninth position.
Hickey only had five race meetings under her belt so far this season and said the Australian titles result gave her a lot of confidence.
"I hadn't had the best of runs this season, so I was a bit nervous heading into the Australian title," she said.
"But qualifying into the feature race, let along finishing inside the top 10, was a pleasing result.
"Hopefully I'm able to build on it and be able to enjoy more good results for the remainder of the season."
Hickey moved into the late models class at the start of the 2016/17 season following a decade-long stint in speedway karts.
The Macarthur driver thanks her family and sponsors for their ongoing support.
