Macarthur residents are warned to take care outside as a dust storm lingers over parts Macarthur today (Wednesday, February 13).
Strong winds moved dust from western NSW towards the Sydney region yesterday afternoon.
The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage has issued a “very poor” air quality alert for Macarthur.
The dust storm can trigger an allergic reaction and asthma attacks, breathing-related problems or contribute to cardiovascular or heart disease.
A NSW Health spokesperson said the most common symptoms were irritation to the eyes and upper airways.
Residents are advised to avoid or cut back on strenuous outdoor activities today.
The weather is expected to clear across Macarthur to a mostly sunny afternoon.
