Australia Day in Campbelltown is going to look a little different this year.
Campbelltown Council is splitting its civic ceremony and its family activities to two separate locations and times to better cater for the needs of the community.
This year, festivities will be held at Campbelltown’s Koshigaya Park from 2pm-9pm.
Attractions include live music, a whip cracker, kids’ zone, gourmet food and free carnival rides.
“Australia Day is a chance for everyone in our community to come together and celebrate our diversity and what is great about Campbelltown,” mayor George Brticevic said.
“I encourage people of all ages to make the most of our great Aussie weather and enjoy the barbecues, live music, activities, carnival rides and Aussie-themed activities.
“The day is also a chance for us to honour people from within our community who devote their time to making Campbelltown an even better place to live, as well as welcoming our newest citizens.”
The celebrations at Koshigaya Park will begin with a free community barbecue hosted by Ingleburn Rotary Club from 2pm-4pm.
Local performers include Ilisavani Cava, Annika j Music, Kristie Mercer and Bryan Brown, the Luke Koteras and Peter McWhirter Band and The Gramophone Man, while Sydney group The Baker Boys Band will close the day.
The action-packed kids zone runs from 2pm-6pm featuring free face-painting, Aussie crafts, a reptile show, whip cracker performances and carnival rides.
The Koshigaya Park celebration will end with a dazzling fireworks display at 9pm.
Temporary road closures will be in place in the vicinity of Koshigaya Park from 1pm-10pm.
The day’s official proceedings will be held at Ingleburn’s Greg Percival Community Centre from 9am and will include the announcement of the Australia Day award winners, an address from Campbelltown’s 2019 Australia Day ambassador (Paralympian Nicholas Gleeson), a citizenship ceremony and damper morning tea provided by the Ingleburn Country Women’s Association.
Council’s aquatics facilities and leisure centres will offer half price entry and plenty of fun activities being held across the day. Water Wonderland will also be open at Bradbury Oval from 10am-5pm on Australia Day.
