Peter Raksts has been creating memorials and monuments for more than four decades, having learned his craft from his father Jack.

For Peter, what we do is more than just a job. It is something much more to him.

Mr Raksts has built his business on a foundation of compassion, care, understanding and patience, knowing that his clients come to the family-run Peter Raksts Memorials during some of their sadness times.

Manager Jarrod Urquhart, nephew of business owners Peter and Jedda Raksts, said his uncle has a unique and respectful way of viewing the work his team undertakes.

“For Peter, what we do is more than just a job,” Mr Urquhart said.

“It is something much more to him – and us – because the memorials and monuments are something very special and important to our customers, and so crafting them is very important to us.

“We pride ourselves on quality.

“It is Peter’s name and reputation, so he always does that little bit extra and stands by what we do.

“We source the best quality and never cut corners.

“Peter actually wrote the Australian Standards for our line of work, back in the day.

“Monuments then weren’t up to scratch, they were falling over after a few years.

“And now everyone is abiding by those standards.”

Mr Urquhart said customers usually come to them in the final stages of the grieving process and treating them with respect is of the utmost importance.

“We listen,” he said.

“Let them communicate what they’re hoping to achieve. We try to put a small smile on their faces because we’ve helped them do something lovely for their loved ones.”
