A p-plate driver from Spring Farm was allegedly caught travelling more than 60km/h above the speed limit while watching videos on his mobile phone at Catherine Field last night.
Highway Patrol officers detected the Mitsubsihi Lancer heading south on Camden Valley Way about 10.40pm at an alleged speed of 142km/h in an 80km/h zone.
Officers spoke to the drive, an 18-year-old man on his red p-plates, and allegedly noticed the mobile phone in the centre console of his vehicle was playing YouTube videos.
Police confiscated the teen’s licence and suspended him for six months on the spot.
He also received an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h (which is a $2435 and six demerit points) and another for using his mobile phone when not permitted (a $337 fine and five demerit points).
The registration plates on the man’s vehicle have been removed and handed back to the Roads and Maritime Service for three months.
