Thousands of people braved the rain and headed to Club Menangle on Saturday night for the Race Against Drought meeting. The special harness racing event kick-started a month of the club fundraising for drought-stricken farmers. The club’s business development manager Ken White said funds raised on Saturday night were still being tallied. However, he estimated more than $15,000 was raised at the event. “It was a great night but the rain knocked us around crowd wise,” Mr White said. “We also had the night markets on, live country music and we held a successful auction.” Club Menangle will run nine race meetings during September and aims to raise more than $100,000. Mr White said horse number six would sport a lime green colour in every race to support Race Against Drought during October. “Every time horse number six wins $1000 will be donated,” she said. “We’ve had seven winners with that number so far.” RELATED CONTENT:
