Bringelly Public School has called for community help to solve the mystery of its missing time capsule.
A time capsule that was buried somewhere in the school grounds during a centenary celebration in 1978.
Now, the school community is frantically working to find the capsule so it can unveil its historical contents at the school’s 140-year anniversary commemorations next month.
School administration manager Suzie Cazalet is heading up the search and has called on past staff, students and parents to help solve the case before celebrations begin on October 25.
“I have looked through the school archives and I can’t find an official record of the time capsule but several people have insisted it’s there,” she said.
“But no-one can pinpoint where it has been buried within our grounds.
“I would love to unearth it, I’ve been like a dog with a bone to find out where it is located. It’s a real mystery.”
Ms Cazelet said she had narrowed the search down to three possible locations.
“We believe it could be somewhere between our original car park and school entrance,” she said.
“But it could also be where our original flag pole was placed, or under our school’s demountable building.”
Bringelly Public School was established in 1878.
The school will toast 140 years of operation with a formal assembly for students, staff and parents on October 25 from 10am.
The event will include a historic display, an exhibition of student artwork, a barbecue, games and an open classrooms tour.
Celebrations continue when the school hosts a spring fair on October 27 which will include live entertainment, rides and market stalls.
"The school has a great history and a wonderful community connection in Bringelly,” Ms Cazalet said.
