HAPPY: Abbie Henshaw and Adam McCarthy celebrate with their medal haul from the Short Course Swimming Championships.

A young Macarthur duo are continuing to make a splash on the state’s swimming circuit.

Atlantis Swim Club’s Abbie Henshaw, 13, and Adam McCarthy, 14, won four bronze medals at the 13 and over NSW State Short Course Championships at Sydney Olympic Park last month.

Abbie secured bronze in the 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke while Adam took home a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.

Atlantis club president Warren McCarthy said Abbie and Adam’s success was “impressive”.

He said the pair had enjoyed a strong year in the pool. Their achievements include a combined five medals at the July NSW Metropolitan Short Course Swimming Championships.

“Abbie and Adam are both promising talents and they are in good form,” McCarthy said.

“The short course championships are the highest level of competition in NSW. We had six swimmers compete and finished with 10 top results in 13 individual events.

“I think these results put us on the map – we are a smaller club but are punching well above our weight.”

McCarthy said Atlantis would now turn its attention towards the 12 years and under Short Course Championships at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend.

“The rest of our swimmers will work towards the summer swimming season,” he said.

The club is based at the Atlantis Aquatic Swim Centre in Smeaton Grange.
