Melbourne City will take a sleeker squad into this year's A-League as they aim to make the grand final for the first time.
Coach Warren Joyce added out-of-contract French midfielder Florin Berenguer to his squad on Thursday, a day after defeating Newcastle Jets 1-0 to advance to the FFA Cup quarter finals.
But there's only likely to be one signing, meaning City won't be replacing all of their off-season departures - led by Daniel Arzani - for the season ahead.
"I can't see more than two players coming in," Joyce said.
"It's a question of the money. Everyone's got a salary cap."
Nine senior players - Arzani, captain Michael Jakobsen, marquee Marcin Budzinski, Oliver Bozanic, Stefan Mauk, Nick Fitzgerald, Bruce Kamau, Ruon Tongyik and Manny Muscat - have left the club in the off-season.
There have ben six arrivals through Riley McGree, Rostyn Griffiths, Lachlan Wales, Scottish forward Michael O'Halloran, Berenguer and Anthony Caceres, who returns from a spell on loan.
Berenguer, 29, is a left-sided midfielder that most recently featured for second-tier French club Sochaux.
On paper, City's defence could do with an addition or two.
Against the Jets, there was precious little cover on the AAMI Park bench behind a back four of Harrison Delbridge, Osama Malik, Bart Schenkeveld and Scott Jamieson.
But Joyce said he attack was the priority.
"Goals, certainly. We're looking at adding goals to the group if we can," he said.
Meanwhile, the Jets, led by out-of-position Kosta Petratos up front, looked bereft of ideas going forward.
Coach Ernie Merrick has the bulk of his grand final team intact but is still in recruitment mode, particularly given Roy O'Donovan still has eight games of a ban to serve.
"Our target is to bring a central striker and a winger, and a back-up goalkeeper now that Jack Duncan has gone," he said.
"We've got a couple of players we're pretty close with.
"Once we get recognised strikers and wingers we'll be in there in the finals this year. I'm not sure we'll be in the top two but we'll definitely be a finals team."
The season begins on October 19 when Adelaide United host Sydney FC, while the Melbourne derby kicks off a night later.
