The South West Sydney Tourism Taskforce want to put Camden on the map – literally.
The not-for-profit organisation is developing a tourism map of the area to encourage more people to come and see what Camden has to offer.
Taskforce member and Camden resident Emma Castle said the aim of the map was to tap into the international tourism market.
“International tourists are already staying in hotels in south west Sydney,” she said.
“We need them to be aware of the local tourism attractions of Camden and neighbouring areas to increase the length of their stay and the amount of dollars spent in the region.
“International tourism continues to grow in south west Sydney and the whole region is ideally located for the attractions to be packaged in with stays at local hotels.
“We are in what is about to become the Badgery's Creek aerotropolis, so we need to be prepared to take this incremental growth after the airport is opened and be tourist-ready.
“The first step in doing that is to raise awareness about the amazing tourism assets right under our nose.”
Attractions like The Alan Baker Gallery (Macaria), Bents Basin, Camden Bicentennial Equestrian Park, Belgenny Farm, Camden Park House and more have already been included on the map.
Ms Castle said Camden was an ideal tourism destination.
“Camden has heritage architecture, a village feel with wonderful food and beverage options as well as shopping,” she said.
“There are also world class attractions like The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan.
“ [Camden] is also in a great location, making it easy to get to the M5, M7, M4 and the airport.”
The map will be distributed in hotel lobbies across south west Sydney, visitor information centres between Sydney and Wollongong and at travel agents booking both domestic and inbound groups from China, Vietnam and Korea.
It will also run as an insert in a Chinese language magazine that is distributed in hotel rooms across Sydney.
Local tourism businesses are also invited to join the taskforce and become an attraction listed on the map.
“We have tried to include everything that is obviously a tourist attraction but if you would like to guarantee your spot, the best way to do it is to become a member of the taskforce,” Ms Castle said.
“It's not-for-profit and membership supports activities like the design, printing and distribution of these maps.”
