Oran Park racer sets out to extend series lead

Tim Brook leads the pack.
Tim Brook leads the pack.

There’s no doubt about it, Tim Brook is having one hell of a racing season.

The Oran Park resident will head into this weekend’s race at the new The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia as the Toyota 86 Racing Series points leader.

Brook commanded the track in Townsville at the last round, taking out pole position at all three races in round two.

The result rocketed the racer to the top of the championship standings.

South Australia has proven a happy hunting ground for Brook in the past, winning the Australian Formula Vee Series at Mallala in 2014.

“We went over there a few weeks ago and got some laps in, and that was really useful,” Brook said.

“It’s such a unique circuit, unlike almost everything else we race on, so learning the track is going to be really important.

“Our car has been quick all year so hopefully that continues and it’ll just be getting me up to speed.”

Now in his third season in the Toyota 86 Racing Series, Brook is a comparative veteran of the category.

He said that experience would allow him to focus on the track rather than the car, accelerating the learning process.

“Nothing beats seat time, and I’m lucky to have had some great support over the last few years to allow us to go racing,” Brook said.

“Because of that I’ve got a pretty good feel for the car, and having tested at The Bend we’ve hopefully got the car close to where it will need to be, so we’re looking forward to the weekend.

“It’s not going to be easy, the level of competition is always really high and the racing close, so we’ll have our work cut out that’s for sure.”

Brook will form part of a 36-car field over the weekend which features Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bright, and Supercars regular Chris Pither as invited professionals.

The action will be broadcast live on Fox Sports this Saturday.
