Early plans for a new school at Catherine Field have been lodged with the Department of Planning.
The Department of Education’s Catherine Field Primary School would accommodate 1000 students on a two-hectare lot surrounded by public open space.
It is expected to be fully operational by the first day of school, 2022.
The school will include 44 classrooms, a hall, an administration centre, a library, amenities, storage, staff car parking and site services.
Documents available on the planning department’s website reveal the school is planned for the corner of Peter Brock Drive and Barry O’Keefe Drive, Catherine Field.
“The proposal is designed to meet the education needs of the increasing population of Catherine Field, a suburb which is experiencing significant urban and population growth,” the proposal stated.
“The location of the primary school… will provide a new school that is easily accessible for the primary school-aged population that is anticipated in the [area].”
The school is estimated to be worth $39 million.
The documents state the school plans are “largely consistent” with local planning controls.
“The proposal will reduce the pressure on other local primary schools nearby which are experiencing enrolment pressure and will create more flexible, future-focussed learning spaces to accommodate new ways of teaching and learning,” the report read.
The Department of Education will now prepare a development application and environmental impact statement.
