Former Macarthur Football Assocation boss backs south-west A-League bid

The former head of the Macarthur Football Association has thrown his support behind the South-West Sydney FC A-League bid.

Rob Laws, who has 30 years of experience in the Macarthur soccer community, has joined the bid as a community ambassador.

South-West Sydney FC is campaigning to become one of the two successful bids for the A-League expansion, which will welcome two new teams to Australia’s top tier soccer league.

Mr Laws said he was keen to see Macarthur represented in the A-League.

“I see tremendous benefits in an A-League team representing the whole south-west area and the combination of Southern Districts Association and the Macarthur region brings huge advantages in a total football sense,” he said.

“South-West Sydney FC is backed by genuinely passionate football people who understand football here and are focussed on bringing the A-League to our entire community.

“They are very keen to include Macarthur-based football supporters should their bid be successful.

“I am pleased to be an ambassador for the region to assist the delivery of an A-League club to our wonderful community.”

The south-west bid is in opposition to the United for Macarthur bid spearheaded by Campbelltown Council.

It encapsulates the area from Bankstown, Liverpool and Fairfield in the north to Mittagong, Bowral and Bundanoon in the south – covering all of Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly.

Bid chairman Gino Marra said Mr Laws was a great asset to South-West Sydney FC.

“Rob joining our club as a community ambassador is another step in the right direction for our A-League bid,” Mr Marra said.

“Rob is fully invested in football in this region, he’s as passionate as we all are about football and bringing an A-League team to our community.

“We will continue to build our club with a combination of local people, local money and local football knowledge.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have Rob join us on this journey.”
