A new K-12 school could be coming to Leppington in the next few years.
Independent school Amity College – which has campuses in Prestons, Shellharbor and Auburn – has purchased land at Leppington with the intention of building its fourth premises.
Amity College is a non-government, non-denominational private school which first opened in Prestons in 1996.
Their site in Leppington is at the corner of Ingleburn and Byron roads. The school is expected to be accessed from Byron Road.
Amity College is expected to lodge a development application for the school in the next couple of months.
The land is already zoned for educational use and early planning was undertaken by the Department of Education, before the land was sold to Amity College.
When Amity College lodges its application, it will be up to the Department of Planning and Environment to approve or reject the school.
Information on the Department of Planning’s website indicates the school site would also include an early learning centre.
The document said: “The provision of a permanent school facility in the locality will be crucial to meeting the educational needs of the growing residential population in the Leppington Priority Precinct. The proposed new school will provide residents in the locality with best practice education facilities with excellent access from surrounding residential areas, and access to an adjoining pubic open space area.”
