A Camden-based cheerleading team have flipped, yelled and danced their way into the USASF Cheerleading World Championships.
The boys and girls in the 18-person squad will fly to Orlando, Florida in April 2018 to compete against the world’s best.
They will be the first team in Western Sydney to compete at the prestigious event.
Steps 2 Stardom head coach Jodie Anthony said throughout her 35 years of coaching she had never seen children show such maturity toward their sport.
“They are driven and determined – they set personal and team goals then do whatever it takes to achieve them,” she said.
“They are talented hard working kids who are team mates and best friends.”
The squad secured their place last month after taking out first place at the national competition.
They were awarded the highest score out of 31 teams in their division from across Australia.
Ms Anthony said the team was highly praised by the panel of USA expert judges and commended for their almost flawless routine.
“It was the best they’ve ever done,” she said.
“They could not have put anymore into their performance.”
The local children in the team have already been training for 10 hours each week at the Smeaton Grange studio in preparation for the world championship event.
The team is now turning their hard efforts into raising the much needed funds to get to the USA in April, 2018.
