THE buzz word on the lips of all Camden councillors is infrastructure and the new mayor, Lara Symkowiak is no different.
Cr Symkowiak defeated Cr Eva Campbell five votes to four at last week's council meeting.
New Liberal councillor Peter Sidgreaves was elected deputy mayor unopposed.
Cr Symkowiak said she hoped to work with all levels of government to get the best for Camden.
"Over the next 12 months my focus has to be on working with all levels of government to ensure we get as much infrastructure as possible," she said.
"It's particularly important to lobby the state government because that's where the big infrastructure items come from."
She said she would work to ensure the council was applying for all the funding and grants available.
Cr Symkowiak said one of the things that came up during her campaign was the need for parks and recreational areas. "Most of our residents travel to work so when they do have leisure time they want a nice environment.
"Development is happening, but it's about getting the best development possible that doesn't create problems," she said.
