More than 500 people packed into the Camden Civic Centre on Wednesday night to protest Camden Council's improvement plans for the Camden CBD.

The Camden Community Alliance organised meeting saw a resolution passed to call on the council to defer its town centre works to engage with the community and the Camden Chamber of Commerce.

President Pieter Versluis said he was overwhelmed by the public support for the newly formed group, including more than 700 signatures on a petition supporting the call for a moratorium.

"Stop what you're doing, declare a moratorium and engage with us," he told the meeting, to which the crowd cheered.
