St Clare's celebrates national storytime

As hundreds of thousands of Australian kids read the same book at the same time recently, St Clare’s Catholic Primary School Narellan Vale took it to another level.

Twenty-one pupils acted out the book as a play as it was read to 350 other pupils of the school during National Simultaneous Storytime.

The annual campaign aims to encourage more Australian children to read and enjoy books.

This year the book chosen was Too Many Elephants in This House written by Ursula Dubosarsky and illustrated by Andrew Joyner.

‘‘Our year 5 and 6 students had been working on the play during lunch times and a lot of the ideas were there’s,’’ drama teacher Alison Dengate said.

‘‘The kids loved it and it was very funny at times.

‘‘Making it a play really brings the characters to life.’’
