High profile Wests Tigers recruit Josh Reynolds will have his first hit out for the club during the first pre-season trial in Cairns on Saturday.

The match against the North Queensland Cowboys will also feature other newbies including Ben Matulino, Russell Packer, Chris McQueen, Mahe Fonua and Robbie Rochow.

It will be the first time fans get to see how the new look halves combination of Reynolds and Luke Brooks gels.

The entire top squad minus premiership winning Wests Tigers playmaker Benji Marshall will make the journey north for the match.

Coach Ivan Cleary said the match was a genuine trial.

“These trials are going to have a fair say in what that round one team looks like,” he said.

“It’s no secret that there’s a few positions that are probably up for grabs, so it’s a good chance for the players to put their best foot forwards in regards to that.

“There’s a lot of guys who are in a position to have a great season from the work they’ve done at training, but once they finally start play, we’ll be able to really see what will be the best fit for the opening game for us.”

The match will kick off at 7.30pm and will be stream on weststigers.com.au.
