There’s a reason why Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, but living with pets in apartment buildings can be a challenge.
One common issue that people face is pet odour and giving your pet an outlet for doing their business.
Cats have litter boxes, but dogs naturally require grass, which can be an issue for owners who need to head out of the apartment for a few hours.
One solution is Potty Plant, Australia’s first grass toilet for dogs.
Potty Plant consists of a plastic container filled with 100% natural and biodegradable grass, which won’t leave a bad odour in the apartment or require daily maintenance.
It is effective because the scent of real grass attracts dogs, so they quickly adapt to using it.
Potty Plant Founder, Julia Sakr came up with the idea as a dog owner living in an apartment.
“Living with Barney, my Samoyed puppy, in a small high-rise apartment was do-able, but the products available were not working for us. Barney didn’t use them or they left an awful smell and needed to be thrown out,” Miss Sakr said.
“Many people who considered owning a dog were previously put off by the idea because they lived in an apartment. Potty Plant allows dogs to better fit into our urban lifestyles, thereby giving dogs the opportunity to be welcomed into loving homes despite not having a backyard,” she said.
