A relic from yesteryear will wash a wave of nostalgia over boxing fans at The Oaks Hotel on Saturday.

However, fighters won’t hit the canvas floor in staged bouts like fight nights in Jimmy Sharman’s Boxing Tents.

The Oaks Hotel publican Paul Collins and Grange Old School Boxing are combining to host an ‘old school tent boxing’ fight night.

An enormous marquee will be erected at the hotel to emulate the atmosphere of the renowned boxing tents and Mr Collins encouraged people to “come for the experience”.

“There will be high-quality fights, it is all ticked off by Boxing NSW,” Mr Collins said.

“It will be a mix between juniors and adults with local kids from Picton and Grange Old School Boxing.”

Grange Old School Boxing trainer Anthony Redwood has helped set 24 matches which includes three female bouts and ages range from 14 to 40-plus.

Of the 24 fights, 14 are “real” bouts and 10 will be exhibition-only matches. A strong performance from the host gym is expected.

Grange’s fighters Trent Williams, Tyson McDougall, Ben Gunn, Chris Bowers, Mark Kleynjan, Jason Shaw, Ryan Lewis and Lachlan Yule are listed and set to fight people from South Australia, Victoria, Sydney and the ACT.

Mr Collins said there would be about 400 tickets available, fights start about 5.30pm and there is an alcohol-free zone. Tickets cost $50, phone 4657 1021.
