Fresh on the heels of being named one of Australia’s top 50 small towns, Camden has been honoured again.
Presenters from popular television show Sydney Weekender – which highlights top spots to visit across the city – stopped by Camden today (Thursday, September 29) to highlight the suburb’s best eateries and points of interest.
With camera crew and producer in tow, presenters Jason and Beck Stevens visited R Coffee Co, Burger Frank, Mind Over Manor and Upstairs at Fred’s.
“Coming to Camden was my pitch – it’s like my baby,” Mrs Stevens told the Advertiser.
“My brother-in-law [Pastor Paul Stevens of Lifehouse Church, Camden] lives out here so I wanted to come along and they said yes to my idea.”
Sydney Weekender worked with Camden Council to choose top spots to visit.
Mind Over Manor owner Hayley Priest-Batrouni was thrilled to get the call from council staff.
“We were the only retail store to be chosen, which we’re super proud of,” the store-owner said.
“I had butterflies when the crew arrived, I’m not going to lie.”
Ms Priest-Batrouni said she was pleased a wider audience would be able to see what her store offered.
“I think the store is a nice reflection of the environment we’re in,” she said.
“It’s rustic and slightly urban, which is the best of both worlds.
“It has a unique fit-out that I designed and a unique product offering, both Australian-made and international products that you can’t often find in the one place.”
Ms Priest-Batrouni said she had noticed more customers visiting from out of the area in recent times and hoped the coverage on TV would boost not only her store, but the whole region.
“I’ve seen such a growth in the last few years since I’ve had my store,” she said.
“I think the more spotlight we have on Camden the better.”
Burger Frank owner Brittney Sebalj echoed Ms Priest-Batrouni’s sentiment.
“People should be aware of Camden,” she said.
“The show will help get our name out there.
“We’ve got our regulars that love our burgers and everyone that comes here loves our burgers – we just want to spread the word.
“We make everything from scratch, including the buns, and source as many local ingredients as possible.”
Sydney Weekender previously visited Camden in 2013, for a segment celebrating the Macarthur region, and 2014, when the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living was highlighted.
Sydney Weekender will air the Camden segment – themed ‘a day in Camden’ – on Sunday, October 23 on Channel 7.
The segment will run for about five minutes.
