More than $20,000 has been raised for Silverdale mum Nikki Tatum, who is suffering from debilitating multiple sclerosis.
This is only a quarter of the way to the family’s $80,000 goal, however, to fund her trip to Russia for life-saving treatment.
Since early August, the crowd-funding campaign on chuffed.org has raised $22,877.
The family is extremely grateful to everyone who has donated.
“There have been a mix of old familiar names and names that none of us recognise at all,” Ms Tatum’s sister-in-law Erin O’Regan said of the donors.
“The good people of the Camden Lions Club are now also on board.
“As well as being Nikki’s sponsor and collecting monies on her behalf, they have suggested they may also be able to raise money for her cause.”
Ms O’Regan said the employer of her brother Wayne Dunbar – Ms Tatum’s partner – was also looking to contribute $5000 to the campaign.
“Other sums from various sources are still filtering through,” she said.
“Every little bit helps and gets Nikki one step closer to Russia.
“It is a big process, but we are getting there.
“It’s been a huge joint effort involving many emails, phone calls and leg work, but we hope that the campaign is successful in raising as close to the $80,000 goal as possible.
“Even if we don’t quite get there, we are on the up and up and this will help Nikki out immensely.”
To further help spur the donations along, two fundraising events have been arranged in the next two months.
On Saturday, October 15 a high tea event will be held at Mulgoa Valley Receptions, while on Saturday, November 5 the family will hold a benefit night at Hubertus Country Club in Luddenham.
“We have been collecting donations from businesses and attractions in the form of products and vouchers that can be raffled and auctioned at the event,” Ms O’Regan said.
“We just hope that these events are well attended and profitable.
“We are aiming for a substantial boost to the current donation tally.”
The High Tea will run from 1-3.30pm and tickets are $55 per head.
The event can cater for about 100 people and roughly half of the tickets have already sold.
RSVP by September 30, details trybooking.com/MYZX.
The benefit night will include live entertainment, auctions, lucky door prizes and a three-course meal.
Tickets are $100 each (available this week) and the venue can seat 300 people.
