Relay for life raises vital funds

Participants walked, danced and skipped their way around Camden’s Onslow Oval for the annual Relay for Life

More than 800 people took to the oval on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18.

The relay is now in its eighth year.

Chairman Aneek Mollah said the event was a huge success.

“So far we have banked $75,000 but we expect that to double by Friday,” he said.

The event raises funds for the Cancer Council’s research initiatives.

To date the relay has raised $1.2 million with funds still rolling in.

“We are really happy with how the event went – truly ecstatic,” Mr Mollah said.

“The silent disco was a huge hit, the headphones were actually sold out.

“We had music and movies on the big screen, people sitting on couches watching the screens or dancing around the track.”

Mr Mollah said the Hope Ceremony was a highlight of this year;s event.

He said he was grateful for such a great turn out on such a busy weekend.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who shares our vision of beating cancer, who share hope and fight for those who need fighting for,” he said.
