The closure of Renbury Farm Animal Shelter in Austral was announced on social media yesterday.
In a statement made on the company’s Facebook page, it was announced that Renbury would close its boarding facility in approximately in four months and the impounding facility two months later.
Thousands of people concerned about animal care practices at Renbury have signed an online petition calling for an independent audit of the site in recent weeks, but the statement claimed that wasn’t the reasoning for the closure.
“The decision to close has been on the table for an extremely long time and has not been (as reported) a result of any online petitions or calls for an independent audit,” it read.
The impounding facility is currently been used by Camden, Fairfield, Liverpool and Bankstown councils for lost and surrendered animals.
More to come.
