The Narellan business community has rallied around one of their own by mounting a mass blood donation drive.
And they have invited the wider Macarthur community to join them.
The Greater Narellan Chamber of Commerce started Red 25 Group - a group name under which members will donate blood in a bid to raise awareness of the large number of people in need of a blood transfusion and to support Declan Pauley, the son of a chamber board member who was diagnosed in June with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, the most common form of cancer in children.
"Declan's mum Belinda and family are the perfect example of people who give constantly to the community for no accolades and never ask for anything," chamber president Adriana Care said.
"When Declan was first diagnosed, Belinda and her family asked for nothing but well wishes, prayers and support. Despite this, we were approached by an overwhelming number of our members and colleagues asking how they can help and support the family.
"The result was the creation of the group and raising awareness to donate blood. Not everyone can donate blood; however, the Chamber is hoping for 25 per cent of its membership to do this by the end of the year to help out over 150 people needing a blood transfusion."
Ms Care encouraged residents to give blood and join Red 25 so their donation could count towards the group's tally.
"We would love to beat our expectations, and we would love anyone from the community to join us, it's not a closed group," she said.
The Red Cross Blood Bank will be in parts of Macarthur in November and December collecting donations.
