Canberra golfer Brendan Jones is within striking distance of sealing a place in July's British Open after a flawless second round helped him leap into contention at the Mizuno Open in Japan.
With the leading four players in the event not already exempt to book their place at St Andrew's, Jones carded a bogey-free five-under 67 to move to a share of sixth place at six-under.
Persistent injuries and average form means Jones has dropped to No.410 in the world after being on the edge of the top 50 a few years ago.
His last appearance at a major was at the British Open in 2012. Jones has previously won the Mizuno Open twice, in 2004 and 2013. New Zealander Michael Hendry (10-under) is the leader at the halfway mark.
