SPRING is here and it is time to open the windows, clear out those cobwebs and do some spring-cleaning to welcome in the new season. Taking into account our busy lives, the following is a list of spring-cleaning essentials that will keep the house in tip-top shape.
Professional organiser, Sharne Kuper from My Organised Home provided these tips:
■Kitchen
Clean the fridge and freezer, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Wipe down the pantry and throw out any out-of-date foods.
Clean and sanitise the garbage bin.
■Bedroom
Wash pillow and mattress protectors and bed skirts. Turn your mattress. Vacuum under the beds.
■Bathroom
Check the medicine cabinet for out-of-date items and safely discard. Toss the kids' bath toys in a nylon wash bag in the washing machine. Give all tiled and glass areas a good clean and attend to any dirty-looking grout with a toothbrush and some elbow grease.
■Laundry
Put your washing machine on a clean cycle. Clean behind your laundry appliances — especially the dryer — as lint can build up over time.
■Living and dining
Vacuum under furniture. Give remote controls a thorough clean. Wash the couch throws and cushion covers.
■Throughout your home
Clean skirting boards and doors. Clear out cobwebs. Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures. Check batteries in your smoke alarm. Polish any wood and wax if necessary. Replace any burnt-out lights with new energy-saving LED globes
■Remember to consider the planet when spring cleaning your home.
There are simple, effective and eco-friendly cleaners you can make up yourself from everyday items such as baking soda and vinegar.
