WESTS Tigers' rugby league coach Tim Sheens has enjoyed a memorable year as rookie Australian mentor.
The four-time premiership-winning coach made his debut as Kangaroos' mentor in 2009 replacing Ricky Stuart, after Australia lost the World Cup against New Zealand last November in Brisbane.
In May at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, in Sheens' first game in charge, the Kangaroos toppled New Zealand in the Anzac Test.
Sheens, 59, steered Australia to an emphatic 46-16 win over England in the Four Nations final played in Leeds on Sunday.
Tigers' hooker Robbie Farah didn't play in Australia's team in the final. He watched from the sidelines as a member of the 24-man squad.
And Tigers' second-rower Gareth Ellis gave a spirited performance in the losing England team.
Kiwis' skipper and Tigers' five-eighth Benji Marshall came home a week early from the Four Nations after England eliminated the Kiwis.
In NRL news, the Tigers resumed pre-season training last week.
