THE Jets were shot down, missing out on first grade finals football for the 2009 season following a 30-16 loss against The Oaks on Sunday.
A win would have given Narellan a Group 6 Country Rugby League elimination final against East Campbelltown, but it was not to be.
Tempers flared towards the end with three Narellan players and one from The Oaks sent off in the dying minutes.
Too many times the Jets were caught flat-footed when in a scoring position.
Narellan refused to surrender and fought hard to get into a winning position.
But The Oaks' coach Rob Jones and his players finished on a high note in front of their home fans at Dudley Chesham Sportsground.
A disappointed Narellan coach Robbie Mears admitted the Jets had faltered in the season's closing stages.
``We didn't play well today and there's nothing to blame but ourselves,'' Mears said.
``They all knew what was needed and were well aware that a win would have put us in the finals.
``We had an opportunity to tie the scores but we wasted a chance out wide.
``The good work that we did at the start of the year has been undone and to miss the finals is a bit disappointing.''
Mears believes some pride could be taken from his team's performances throughout the year.
``Overall it's been a successful season as a club. We won three games last year and they were all against Camden, so it's been an improvement on that,'' he said. ``We also have the reserves into the finals, so I hope all the boys go and cheer them on in their play-off game.
``We just had no depth for several weeks with too many injuries but the boys who backed up from reserves did well for us.
``We started off well in the first half of the competition and beat all the teams that are up there in the finals except Moss Vale when we drew with them.''
In other Group 6 first grade games, Picton drew 28-28 with Moss Vale, Thirlmere/Tahmoor beat Oakdale 24-16, East Campbelltown beat Camden 38-32 and Mittagong beat Ingleburn 30-22.
Oakdale will take on East Campbelltown on Sunday at 2.30pm in an elimination final at Campbelltown Stadium.
